In 1954, a working committee was founded by practitioners and scientists from the fields of medicine, natural sciences, psychology, education, art, and architecture. Their idea was to show toy manufacturers what constitutes a good toy from a scientific and artistic point of view. Today, the spiel gut seal is one of the most important and prestigious awards for good and educationally valuable toys in Germany.
Good toys support children's development by stimulating their imagination rather than restricting it, not disappointing expectations, and offering diverse and ongoing play opportunities. In addition, good toys are environmentally friendly, safe, and meet the purpose of play in terms of durability and service life. Toys awarded the spiel gut seal meet these and other criteria.
