B921 - Taumler Wood Contrast

Various woods with contrasting colors are glued together to create visual effects.
"Taumler" (wobbling tops) are essentially tops characterized by a high center of gravity and a more or less symmetrical design.
Generally, these tops are not easy to spin up.
The challenge lies in spinning the top fast enough.
The two tips of the top are shaped differently.
One side is pointed, while the other is rounded.
When spun on the pointed end, the top struggles to right itself; instead, the tip traces a circular path.
This creates a beautiful visual effect. The real art lies in spinning the top at such a shallow angle that the body of the top just barely misses touching the surface; the lack of friction at the pointed tip prevents it from righting itself.
The situation is different with the blunt tip. If spun fast enough, the top will right itself almost immediately. Skilled spinners can even flip the wobbling top over by nudging the ends of its axis.
In short, these wobbling tops offer a real challenge and are by no means mere children's toys.
