Karl Zahn is a freelance product and furniture designer based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. In his work, he explores contemporary materials and historical technologies to create modern hybrids that are more usable, beautiful and sustainable. His designs are characterized by a pared-down simplicity and austere aesthetic, combining hard modernist lines and finishes with a Danish sensibility for materials and joinery. Each piece is designed to withstand changing trends and foster complex relationships that become more endearing with time.

Born and raised in rural Vermont, his work with wood and natural materials is an extension of the lessons learned from his home and time spent in forests and woodworking shops. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Product Design (2003), he traveled to San Francisco where he immersed himself in the creative and intricate metalworking culture that thrives there. In 2007, he moved to New York to start his own business.
